The Faithful God

The last in the recent series on faithfulness

by Janice Ross

Suitable for Key Stage 3 - Church Schools

Aims

To consider the faithfulness of God in sending Jesus into the world.

Preparation and materials

  • The poem below should be prepared in advance, to be performed as a rap by a class group.
  • The song ‘Hallelujah' by Darlene Zschech ready for the Reflection time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1m3HDc5bpQ.
  • Optional: image of a stable scene.

Assembly

1. Explain that some children are going to perform a rap and you would like the audience to listen carefully and decide which story the rap is relating.

2. Children perform the rap below:

Father God had a problem,
A hard one to solve,
It concerned his creation,
Round man it revolved.

This creation, so perfect
When first it was made,
Had gone its own way
And from God’s plan had strayed.

God never intended
That man be so lost,
That evil and selfishness
Become the boss.

Free will He’d given man
To choose what was good,
But man in his ignorance
Had chosen - a food?

The world was a mess,
And man at the centre
Was groping in darkness
In need of a mentor.

There was violence and war,
And anger and greed,
Men’s hearts had grown cold,
Of God they’d no need.

But God in His faithfulness,
Wisdom and love,
Knew a Saviour was needed,
Sent from above.

So he asked His Son,
In human form
To enter the world,
As a baby to be born.

He had to be perfect
In all of his ways,
To bring light and hope
And truth to display.

He was needed then,
In Israel of old,
As He is still now,
So the message is told.

So at Christmas this year
Amidst the joy and the fun,
Why not stop to remember
God’s precious Son.

3. Christians believe that God sent Jesus into the world. It is his birth that we celebrate at Christmas each year.

Time for reflection

Christmas time can often be so busy and full of excitement that we forget the reason we have Christmas at all. Christians believe that the coming of Jesus changed the world.

Take a few moments to reflect on this message by listening to ‘Hallelujah’, sung by Darlene Zschech.

Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for your faithfulness in sending us a Saviour, Jesus.
Thank you that through His life and death we can know peace.
Amen.

Music
