Assembly
- Welcome the children to the assembly.
Show Slide 1.
- Ask the children the question: What is their favourite thing about spring?
Give some examples about things that you like about spring. - Point out that spring is a wonderful season, the start of warmer, sunnier days, beautiful flowers, and newborn animals. It is a season that often feels full of hope and joy.
Show Slide 2. - Point out that some people may struggle to enjoy the springtime like we can. Perhaps they struggle to walk outside or are unwell and need to stay inside or even in hospital. Ask the children to think of ideas as to how they could bring the beauty of spring to these people.
Encourage them to think of the things they love most about spring and then use those ideas to make special gifts for others. - Here are some possible examples:
- Make a butterfly suncatcher. An example can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/RrNip0hZZFE
- Make a bouquet of paper spring flowers. An example can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBII_rUdvzs
- Show Slide 3 - Make a brightly painted flowerpot.
- Show Slide 4 - Make flower or animal bookmarks.
- Show Slide 5 - Make spring cupcakes. - Not only are these crafts fun to make they will also bring joy to the people we gift them to They can bring a little bit of springtime magic to other people’s lives.
Time for reflection
Let’s close our eyes and think of someone we would love to make a gift for.
Maybe it is an elderly relative or family friend or someone who is unwell. Maybe we can think about someone who works really hard, helps us a lot or someone who seems a bit sad at the moment. Maybe we can think about someone that we simply would like to say ‘thank you’ to.
Remember a gift doesn’t need to be something physical or expensive. We all have the gift of time. Maybe there are people with whom we could make the effort to spend time talking and showing them that we care in that way. Maybe we could tidy up or help in some other way.
There are many ways in which we could show spring kindness!
Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for the beauty and hope that spring brings,
Please help us to show kindness to others,
Please help us to appreciate the many reasons we have to be grateful.
Amen.
