Assembly
- Have you ever heard the phrase ‘There is no ‘I’ in teamwork’?
When we think of success, we often think of what we have achieved as individuals and forget about what we have achieved together as a team.
If we work well together then teamwork can lead to even greater success than by ourselves, this can involve everyone sharing their ideas and using their best strengths. - In this assembly we are going to look at some examples of teamwork:
Walt Disney’s Animation Team – Walt Disney is a fantastic example of what can happen when we work together as a team. Walt Disney worked with his animation team to create some of the most magical characters and stories, that resulted in some of our favourite Disney films. He encouraged working together and idea sharing with his employees and is known for having many meetings with his teams to discuss projects, such as the building of Disneyland.

Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan – The story of Anne Sullivan and Helen Sullivan is one of the most wonderous and heartwarming examples of teamwork. Anne began teaching six-year-old Helen Keller, who lost her sight and hearing after a severe illness as a baby. Anne used special touch teaching techniques to help Helen with her learning, eventually leading to her graduating from college and becoming an international lecturer and activist.
Play Anne Keller (The Miracle worker movie): This can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwYkIoZpnn0 (Play from 1.27 – 2.50)
The Wright Brothers – The story of the Wright Brothers is another great example of what teamwork can achieve. Wilbur and Orville Wright, worked tirelessly to build and fly the world’s first successful airplane in 1905.
Play Great Inventors: Wright Brothers: This can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1zDmlIGDWk (Play 0 – 3.35) - These three tales are very inspirational to us, and a reminder that we can achieve great things if we put our minds to it. If we have any projects, sports or activities that we are working hard to achieve, remember Walt Disney’s words ‘All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them’.
Time for reflection
Let’s think of a time when we have needed to complete a task and consider the following questions:
Would the task have been easier with some help from others around us?
What might our shared ideas have led to?
Let’s remember to listen to other people’s ideas, allow people to contribute, be supportive of each other and aim to be team players.
Prayer
Dear God,
Please help us find courage in ourselves, to work hard and try new things.
Please help us to persevere.
Please also help us to work with others, so that we can help each other achieve our hopes and dreams.
Amen.
