And Now It’s Summer!

Changing seasons

by Rebecca Parkinson

Suitable for Whole School (Pri)

Aims

To consider the wonder of the different seasons of the year.

Preparation and materials

  • You will need the PowerPoint slides that accompany this assembly (And Now It's Summer) and the means to display them.

Assembly

  1. Ask the children whether they can name all four seasons of the year.

Ask them which season it is at the moment.

  2. Name each season and ask the children to think about what each season is like. Consider typical weather, what happens in nature, seasonal events and so on. You may wish to make a note of these, but this is optional.

  3. Show Slides 1 to 4 in turn.

See whether the children thought of the same ideas, or whether there are some that didn’t come up.

  4. Ask the children about their favourite season.

Listen to a range of responses.

  5. Remind them that we live in a world full of variety and it is wonderful!

Time for reflection

Christians believe that God has created a world that is full of variety. We have a responsibility to look after our beautiful world.

Encourage the children to think about ways in which they can care for the world. Encourage them to think about ways in which they can care for the school environment.

Listen to a range of responses.

Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for the beautiful world in which we live.
Thank you for the variety of the seasons and the way in which they return year after year.
Thank you for the signs in nature that the seasons are changing.
Thank you too that each one of us is different and special.
Please help us to look after this beautiful world in which we live.
Amen.
